Leg Irons
These Tower Double Lock Leg Irons were manufactured between June 17, 1860 and July 17, 1860. These irons were used on a young man in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. Upon his release, he sought to find a new life in Rock County and brought the irons with him – vowing to never forget the horrors he endured.
Union Army Clothes Brush
With no way to wash a wool uniform, soldiers like Niels Jacobson carried this clothes brush to clean battle debris from their uniform. Jacobson used this brush during deployment from 1863-1865.
Union Powder Horn
Union soldiers like D. L. Norton of the Iowa Volunteers brought the powder horns they used during the Civil War with them as they made a new home in Rock County.
